JOB CONTEXT
The National Gallery’s Women and the Arts Forum aims to shed light on women, past and present, who have contributed to the nation’s cultural life, especially through association with the National Gallery’s collection. Each year, the Forum hosts The Anna Jameson Lecture and an event which is likewise public facing. For the Gallery’s forthcoming bicentenary (May 2024-May 2025), we are organizing two conferences, the first looking at the National Gallery’s female artists, art historians and benefactors, the second focussing on women Gallery Trustees and employees.
JOB PURPOSE
To support Dr Avery-Quash, Senior Research Curator (History of Collecting) with the delivery of the Women and the Arts Forum programme by assisting with: (1) administration associated with the Anna Jameson Lectures (and their subsequent publication as downloadable PDFs via the Gallery’s website); (2) undertaking a range of research projects investigating different aspects of women at the Gallery over its 200-year history (e.g. staffing in different departments) and presenting new research at the 2024/25 conferences; (3) the logistics of both conferences; and (4) the development of a new section of the Gallery’s website to host all relevant material for the Women and the Arts Forum.
SCOPE OF JOB
The jobholder will undertake archival research in the Gallery and in other relevant places to complete mini projects as guided by Dr Avery-Quash; they will liaise with all relevant internal and external colleagues to organise subsequent Anna Jameson Annual Lectures and the 2 Women and the Arts Forum conferences for 2024 and 2025; they will liaise with relevant internal colleagues to organise publication of the Anna Jameson Lecture each year; they will gather all material and produce new material for the new website; they will report, as relevant, on progress to the National Gallery Research Committee and the sponsor.
