Archived: Development Officer – Major Gifts
JOB CONTEXT
The Development Officer – Major Gifts will support the Philanthropy team in reaching their ambitious fundraising targets, working in particular with Development Managers – Major Gifts. The Development Officer will play an active role, through the organisation of cultivation and stewardship events, the coordination of stewardship programmes for major donors, and through directly seeking funding and stewarding a focused portfolio of individual donors.
JOB PURPOSE
This role will provide day to day support to the Development Managers and Head of Philanthropy in both Major Gifts and Trust fundraising. Their key task will ensure our major donors are stewarded effectively, coordinating stewardship of our major donor groups. They will also have responsibility for their own portfolio of individual donors, to steward and cultivate and raise four- and five-figure gifts. They will organise bespoke events for the team, liaising with our events team, which are used to cultivate and steward our major donors and prospects.
SCOPE OF JOB
- Provide day-to-day support for the Development Managers across their whole portfolio of tasks and activities relating to work with Major Donors and Trusts and Foundations
- Work closely with Head of Philanthropy and Development Managers to ensure a timely and effective delivery of stewardship activity for Major Donors and Trusts and Foundations, in line with the stewardship framework
- Assist with the organisation of cultivation and stewardship events, in liaison with the Events team, including managing guest lists, mailings, follow up correspondence and recording of all actions on Tessitura
- Coordinate stewardship programmes for major donor groups, including the Benefactors’ Circle and Director’s Circle
- Draft and prepare correspondence, reports and proposals for donors and prospects as well as briefing notes for events and meetings
- Liaise with staff across the Gallery at all levels, as well as senior volunteers
- Build own portfolio of individual donors, cultivating and stewarding supporters who donate between £5,000 – £25,000 each year
- Assist at team cultivation and stewardship events
- Maintain an effective filing and retrieval system both electronically and hard copy. Record and update information on Tessitura, in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018, and ensure that all data relating to donors and prospects is accurate and up to date
- Undertake other administrative tasks as requested, to assist in meeting the objectives of the Philanthropy team
