Archived: Collection Information Developer – Digital Dossier Programme

JOB CONTEXT

This role is key to delivering the National Gallery’s ambition to build a Digital Dossier, an online resource that allows users to find all the Gallery’s data and content online, all in one place.

To service this ambition, the National Gallery is developing its content systems, including the CIIM (Collections Information Integration Middleware) produced by Knowledge Integration, and implemented in 2019 as the main aggregator and delivery system for Gallery content and data. This draws on data in our collections management system, Gallery Systems’ TMS (SQL Server back end), and other systems. We will also be implementing one or more new systems to manage data held and created by our Scientific, Curatorial and Conservation Departments.

You will be proactive in:

• Providing back-end management and support for existing systems, primarily the CIIM but incorporating other Collections-related platforms
• Implementing the new systems for managing Scientific, Curatorial and Conservation data
• Evaluating new techniques and technologies for data improvements that could support front-facing or internal needs
• Devising and monitoring key performance indicators for the DDP reporting
• Providing understanding of OS software development methodologies to the wider IS and Collections and Research Directorate

The role will apply an agile methodology to project work, using a product management approach in order to ensure that outputs are integrated, user-driven, well-prioritised and flexible.

JOB PURPOSE

The Digital Dossier Project (DDP) Developer will manage and deliver key DDP projects, to tight deadlines and within budget, supporting the Digital Dossier Programme and the wider Collections Department.

The focus for this role is to facilitate the ambitions of the DDP, specifically data modelling, analysis, and enhancement, together with software development and management. You will work particularly closely with the Collections team, IS and external agencies such as Knowledge Integration, to support the needs of collection information management systems, including the CIIM, and dependent systems on a day-to-day basis.

You will deal with existing structured and unstructured data sources and work with product managers to maximise their potential and use both within and outside the National Gallery. Examples of this will be developing interoperability and provenance data structures.

Whilst taking direction from a central delivery roadmap, the role will work independently and own their own individual sub-roadmap. The role will also attend project meetings to ensure the complete and on-time delivery of all agreed activity.
