Southend-on-Sea City Council is seeking a dynamic Director of City Operations to lead our vibrant and growing service portfolio. With a rich history and stunning natural beauty, Southend-on-Sea has become known as a cultural hub with a strong sense of identity and community.

The Director of City Operations is a newly created role portfolio with important social impact, ranging from community safety, regulatory services, parks and open spaces. This role will be critical in ensuring that our city operates smoothly, efficiently, and effectively.
As the city grows, attracting more events, tourists, business, and residents, the need for strong operational backbone has become more imperative than ever. The successful candidate will be a key player in shaping the future of Southend-on-Sea by developing effective relationships with local business leaders to support job creation and business growth, generate revenue through maximising commercial opportunities, and protect the public so that everyone can enjoy what our city offers.
We are looking for a strategic leader who has a strong track record of success in a public-facing roles. You will be comfortable interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders, including members of the public, local businesses, community groups, and elected members. Southend requires a strategic thinker and a self-starter, passionate about making a difference in our community and who can develop and implement plans that align with the Council’s wider vision and strategic priorities.
