The Royal Academy of Dance is a dynamic organisation dedicated to advancing standards of dance education and teaching, and to promoting and investing in the development of dance worldwide.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, the Artistic Director is a key member of the Executive Board which has responsibility for devising and directing the implementation of Academy’s global strategic plans and objectives. Collaborating with members of the Executive Board and other colleagues, the Artistic Director will provide artistic expertise and input into:
• creation and maintenance of examination syllabi (including existing classical ballet syllabi and other potential new dance genres in the future)
• student activities, including classes, courses and bursaries
• Geneé International Ballet Competition and Dance Proms
• Centenary events (2020)
• Continuing Professional Development (CPD) content for RAD teachers and others
• Line management of the Music department and chair of the Music Development Working Group.
The individual will have extensive management / leadership experience in a high-profile and reputable dance organisation, proven experience of dance at a professional level including ballet, extensive experience of directing ballet and / or professional public performance and/or projects. Extensive knowledge of the global professional dance and dance education sectors is also essential.
The successful post holder may also have experience as a current or former professional dancer and experience of contributing to the creation and implentation of a global artistic strategy. High quality communication and management skills with confident and convincing presentation skills as a spokesperson are also integral to the post.
