Northern School of Contemporary Dance

Archived: Programme Leader and Artistic Director for VERVE

Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD)  is recruiting a new Programme Leader and Artistic Director for VERVE, full-time, permanent position.

Based in Leeds, City of Dance, NSCD is a hub for contemporary dance in the North of England and a School of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. This year marks our 30th anniversary of delivering specialist conservatoire-level training to some of the most talented and committed students locally, nationally and internationally.

NSCD hosts just over 200 full-time students. We offer studies in contemporary dance at foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate level in an intimate, supportive and creative learning environment. We focus these programmes on the development of versatile, collaborative and individual dance artists with highly tuned technical, creative and performance skills.

At an exciting time of development for Northern School of Contemporary Dance and for dance in Leeds and across the North of England, the school is seeking to appoint a dynamic, creative and dedicated Artistic Director to lead the company and contribute to the on-going strategic and artistic development of NSCD as a world leading internal centre of excellence for dance education.

VERVE, NSCD’s flag-ship postgraduate performance company, provides students with a professional level experience, working as a member of a touring ensemble, under the leadership of an Artist Director.  VERVE commissions leading choreographers and, through an eclectic repertoire, nurtures versatility, individuality and expressive range.

As a programme of study, the course fosters a realistic appreciation of the professional working environment, encompassing creative, rehearsal and production processes, delivering performance related education workshops and meeting the challenges of a professional touring schedule. The company of approximately 12 dancers tours a programme of work over a four month period to a diverse range of venues through the UK and internationally.  Over the course of the year this Masters level programme ensures that the emerging dance artists are ready to enter the profession.
