Natural History Museum

Archived: Trusts and Foundations Manager

The Natural History Museum is both a world-leading science research centre and the most visited natural history museum in Europe. With a vision of a future in which both people and the planet thrive, it is uniquely positioned to be a powerful champion for balancing humanity’s needs with those of the natural world.

It is custodian of one of the world’s most important scientific collections comprising over 80 million specimens. The scale of this collection enables researchers from all over the world to document how species have and continue to respond to environmental changes – which is vital in helping predict what might happen in the future and informing future policies and plans to help the planet.

The Museum’s 300 scientists continue to represent one of the largest groups in the world studying and enabling research into every aspect of the natural world. Their science is contributing critical data to help the global fight to save the future of the planet from the major threats of climate change and biodiversity loss through to finding solutions such as the sustainable extraction of natural resources.

We are at a pivotal moment in our history as we launch a new strategy setting out our role as the natural world faces increasing threats. Building on our world-leading collection, global reputation for science and as one of the world’s leading visitor attractions, the NHM has ambitious plans leading up to the 150 anniversary of the opening of the Waterhouse Building in 2031, including the current Urban Nature Project campaign, making this a truly exciting time to be part of the NHM team.

About the role

Raising income from trusts, foundations and statutory sources, your role will focus on sustaining and retaining relationships with our existing funders, identifying new sources, and working to steward each donor towards their next gift.

You will cultivate and nurture the funding relationships and funding experience with the NHM at a very exciting point within the Urban Nature Project, which aims to connect people in towns and cities across the UK with the nature on their doorsteps. Working on the stage 2 application to the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and significant applications to major trusts and foundations, you will be joining the team at a key moment for the NHM.

Please note that whilst this will be initially offered as a 6-month contract, that there is a likelihood that it could be extended.

About you

Ideally you will have experience of working on large statutory applications and major trusts. This will be evident by having a successful personal track record in trusts and foundations fundraising, soliciting gifts at five, six and seven figure levels.

This will be teamed with excellent interpersonal, communication and stakeholder management skills and ability to build good relationships both internally and externally.

Fixed Term Contract: 6 months
Closing date: 9am on Monday 21st September 2020
Interviews expected w/c 28 September 2020
