The Natural History Museum is one of the world’s leading museums, internationally recognised for its dual role as a centre of excellence in scientific research and as a leader in the presentation of natural history through exhibitions, public programmes, publications and the web.
NHM Consulting provides services globally in the scientific and cultural sectors, drawing on the expertise of almost 900 staff, many of whom are world authorities in their field. The work of the business spans the full breadth of the Museum’s activities – it includes the creation and transformation of museums and attractions, research for industry, scientific imaging and analysis, environmental assessment work and strategic advice and professional development for diverse governmental and organisational clients.
The range of the Museum’s consulting work has increased in recent years, and this is a new role, created to lead the business development and operations team and to work with delivery partners and networks externally in order to proactively grow the business around the Museum’s centres of excellence and in line with its larger international strategy.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced senior manager in a commercial consultancy, preferably in the cultural sector, with a proven ability to develop and implement commercial strategies and business plans, achieving demonstrable results.
You will have a successful record of negotiating high value contracts and experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team, managing delivery within a matrix environment. With the ability to identify partners and collaborators and forming business relationships accordingly, you have experience of bidding, pitching and tendering for work and demonstrable understanding of formal processes for the awarding of contracts.
The post reports to the Head of International Engagement, who leads on the Museum’s partnerships, diplomacy and business activities worldwide. The International Engagement division also includes the Touring Exhibitions, Publishing, Brand Licensing and Image Services units, and the Wildlife Photographer of the Year team.
This post will require regular travel, averaging around one week in any calendar month.
