About the role

The Events for London team is seeking an experienced Senior Events Officer to play a key role in delivering the Mayor of London’s Events programme. This is an excellent opportunity to work as part of a busy team, delivering some of London’s most exciting and high-profile live public events.

The Events for London team plan, manage and deliver the Mayor of London’s events programme, which enhances and enriches London with free events that celebrate diverse cultures and bring Londoners together from across the city from different communities. It includes over 40 events including London’s spectacular New Year’s Eve firework display, engages with an audience of over 3 million people, features collaborations with over 50 event partners and generates an estimated economic impact of £45m.

We are seeking candidates with a successful track record of project management in the design, operation and delivery of indoor and outdoor events and in managing relationships with statutory agencies, contractors, sponsors and London’s diverse communities.

The role will lead on several projects supporting the delivery of a portfolio of events, so will need to be able to manage multiple projects and be excellent at prioritising work. Events will range in size from speeches and launches, to community events on Trafalgar Square and ceremonial events. You will be joining a fast-working environment and will need to have initiative, be organised and have strong oral and written communication skills.

Qualifications in Event Management and Health and Safety, knowledge of legislation relating to the Events Industry and the management of the public realm and experience of working in a political environment would also be advantageous.

Principal Accountabilities

  1. The Senior Events Officer will deliver and co-ordinate events within a portfolio of the Mayor of London’s events programme. Portfolios include: Major Events and supporting city events, Community Events and Ceremonial and Statutory Events
  2. The role will also deliver specific projects outside of the Mayor of London’s Event Programme which support public engagement and activation of Mayoral priorities and objectives.
  3. Engage and work with GLA Group and external operational agencies and key community stakeholders to manage and deliver specific events.
  4. Build and maintain operational relations with London-wide, national and statutory agencies to support the delivery of the Mayor of London’s Event Programme e.g. local authorities, Transport for London, Metropolitan Police Service, The Royal Parks etc.
  5. Work with external event partners to develop and agree key delivery objectives, as part of a funding agreement, that align with mayoral priorities. Monitor and evaluation of these objectives.
  6. Contribute to the business planning process in relation to allocated events within the annual events programme including budgetary proposals, evaluation and reporting on KPI’s.
  7. Ensure the Mayor of London’s Events Programme is integrated into the overall promotion and marketing of the city through close liaison with teams in the External Relations unit and wider GLA, London and Partners and community groups.
  8. Monitor and evaluate project objectives and ensure appropriate action in line with the decisions of the Mayor.
  9. Manage projects ensuring they adhere to GLA governance processes including procurement, finance, legal and wider policies such as Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
  10. Work directly with Event Manager to support delivery of the events portfolio within the Mayor of London’s event programme.

GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
