About Eastside

Eastside is a market-leading creative education charity inspiring thousands of children and young people each year across Greater London and the UK. We empower young lives and youth voice through participation in arts programmes, developing creativity, confidence, resilience, social, technical and employability skills among children and young people giving them the tools and platforms to express their voices. We have a particular focus on poetry and spoken word, film, digital arts, and drama, championing equal access to creative opportunities for all young lives and seeking to reduce barriers to participation for those in underserved communities.

Large-scale flagship projects include SPOKEN WORD POWER, a national spoken word poetry programme giving thousands of students each year the chance to be mentored by professional poets and perform their poetry in professional venues, and Eastside Artists in Residence, supporting schools with creative artist residencies in a range of art forms, bringing joy whilst achieving school improvement goals through the arts.

Our Eastside School Workshops strand offers a selection of workshops delivered by Eastside’s creative facilitators in schools and is designed to help primary, secondary and SEND schools enhance their curriculum offer or celebrate key calendar dates in the school year, such as Black History Month and Anti Bullying Week. Eastside recently launched Creativity Live, offering livestream interactive schools workshops and on-demand content for teachers, giving students in schools across the UK the chance to engage digitally in creative experiences with Eastside’s inspirational facilitators. Our Film and Digital Arts strand offers introductory filmmaking courses such as the BFI Film Academy for 16-19 year olds, through to our promo and documentary skills programme Eastside Studios, which offers paid work on Eastside projects including supporting our live streams as well as external commissions, to longer term mentorship opportunities such as Females in Film.

Eastside has established 2 main development events each year – April Foolery and Try – Art – Lon both of which have considerable potential for growth. We also own our fantastic building in Shoreditch which comprises delightful office spaces as well as modern studios and training spaces making it a wonderful place to work. Our basement spaces will also be further modernised in the near future opening up the opportunity for greater income generation from third party hires and bookings. Eastside is one of the Arts Council England’s National Portfolio Organisations.
