Archived: Events & Communications Assistant

Responsible for: Assisting in delivering the annual events and exhibitions programme plus support in generating content for the Club website and digital Member communications.

Salary: £25,000.00 – £28,000.00 dependant on experience

Benefits: Cash Plan Bupa and match pension contribution (Employee Contribution 4% & Employer Contribution 4%)

Hours: 40 hours per week; includes evening and weekend work

THE COMPANY

Chelsea Arts Club is a private members’ club for artists in the heart of London. Established in 1891, the Club has occupied the same house in Old Church Street since 1902. As well as painters, sculptors and architects the Club numbers of designers, photographers, film makers, poets, writers, dancers, actors and musicians amongst its 4000 Members. Exhibitions of Members’ work are held throughout the year, and during the winter and spring months there is a lively programme of artistic and literary talks, film screenings, live bands, cabaret performances and classical concerts. A New Year’s Eve Party and a Summer fancy dress ball are held every year.

THE ROLE

The Events & Communications Assistant will provide support to the Events Director in delivering the events and exhibitions programme each season. This will include the coordination of weekly events at the club, both daytime, evening and weekend, the staging of monthly art exhibitions and with the publicity and marketing for both. The role will also include generating content for the Club website plus support in the creation of the Members’ digital newsletter and notices.

Specific responsibilities include…

  • Coordinating events diary and liaising with speakers and performers
  • Managing special bookings, guest lists and performer fees
  • Designing simple publicity materials for print and digital use including posters and programmes
  • Event set-up including technical equipment such as projectors and sound equipment
  • Ordering event equipment, materials and props

The role also includes support in staging the Club’s exhibitions programme, including…

  • Co-ordinating exhibition hangs and liaising with exhibitors
  • Drafting exhibition information and price lists
  • Finalising exhibition sales
  • Preparation of artwork for collection

The Events & Communications Assistant will also take a key role in digital Club communications, including…

  • Keeping the Club website up to date and helping to generate content
  • Helping to draft weekly Newsletter and Members’ Notices
  • Helping to maintain image library for digital communications

Support will also be required with the production of some Club merchandise and the processing of orders and sales for these items.

THE APPLICANT

It is preferable that the applicant will have:

  • A genuine interest in the arts and performing arts
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to deliver events on time and on budget
  • Experience in generating digital content for websites
  • Strong IT skills including Word, Excel and computer design programmes such as In Design or Photoshop
  • Great interpersonal skills in dealing with artists, performers and Club Members
  • Accurate and proficient revising, editing and writing skills
  • Flexibility in the working week to include evening and weekend work is essential
