Barker Langham is a leading cultural consultancy, specialising in the visioning, strategic planning and development of cultural heritage projects in the UK and around the world. Our expertise extends across the cultural sector including museums, exhibitions, visitor centres and landscapes. Our head office is in London and our team and projects are based around the world.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Business Planning Consultant to support Barker Langham’s growth in this area of our work. The candidate will have solid experience and demonstrable experience in the cultural sector, can work across a range of projects, and can also embrace the international nature of Barker Langham’s work.

The role would include travel in the UK and overseas. We have created business and financial strategies for major projects in the UK and abroad – which look at a range of incomes including endowments, earned income, ticketed experiences, food/beverage, retail, property development and new macro-financial structures. Current clients include a range of high profile Heritage Lottery Fund projects across the UK, and a range of museum and cultural organisations in Qatar, Oman and the UAE.

The successful candidate will have 3-5 years of demonstrable experience working to develop Business Plans, ideally in the culture, heritage or arts sectors, and a profile of work for which one has successfully led and delivered for clients and projects. We are also looking for people who are innovative thinkers, and bring fresh approaches to projects and internal processes. The post would likely be London-based at Barker Langham’s office.

Person specification

The key skills required are:

  • Forward facing and good presentation skills for client communication
  • Financial modelling experience
  • Experience of creating business plans (UK and/or international) projects)
  • Some experience in the culture, heritage, tourism and leisure sectors
  • Demonstrable interest in the economics of cultural projects
  • Excellent use of MS Excel
